Welcome to the website of the Pension Protection Fund Ombudsman (PPFO).

We consider applications related to the following:

Decisions made by the Board of the Pension Protection Fund (PPF) under their internal procedures. There are two types of application relating to PPF decisions:
- A decision about a reviewable matter. We call these Referrals.
- A decision about a complaint of maladministration causing an injustice. We call these Complaints.
An appeal against decisions made by the Scheme Manager under the Financial Assistance Scheme's (the FAS) internal review procedure. The FAS is administered by the PPF. We call these Appeals.

The Pension Protection Fund (PPF):

Its role is to give compensation to members of eligible pension schemes, when there are not enough assets in the pension scheme to cover the PPF level of compensation.

The Financial Assistance Scheme (FAS):

The FAS offers assistance to some people who have lost out on their pension because they were a member of an under-funded defined benefit pension scheme that started winding up between 1 January 1997 and 5 April 2005.
